Did you know that every time you straighten yourself upwards, you are working the postural muscles at your core? What I really mean is that you are fighting against that saggy, flab stomach which you have been trying to eliminate for the past few months. In short, practicing good posture helps promote strong abs and back muscles. Read on to learn a few simple adjustments you can start doing today.
Firmly plant your feet on your ground - find a comfortable balance point with your weight evenly distributed between the pads of your feet and your toes.
Take a deep breath - Lift up through the top of your head, straightening your back. You should feel the pressure being released from your low back.
Look straight ahead - Your chin should be in line with the floor or pointing slightly downward. You should feel your jaw and neck muscle relax.
Relax your shoulders - Gently roll them backwards, opening up the chest area. You should feel stronger at this point in time. Take deeper, clearer breaths to enjoy the process.
Contract your abs - Pull in your belly button and slightly rotate your hip bones backwards so that your buttocks tuck under you. The advantage of this exercise should make you feel your abs and butt firmer every time you practice.
Straighten your spine - Imagine you are a marionette on a string and you can feel the relief from taking pressure off your back.
All of the processes above are recommended by a physical therapist who has given me a proper posture coaching session. Try practicing every time you brush your teeth. You will gradually remember how to carry out each process with each passing day. It has served me well in building strong abdominal muscles and I'm sure it can be useful to you as well.
