Our diet is probably the most important thing in our lives. This is because we eat at least three meals everyday. Some of us eat more meals and some of us eat less. Now, I am going to teach you the advantage of eating more meals everyday.
Hey wait! Are you sure eating more is going to help build abs? You are putting in more calories into your body everyday!
Yes, this is true. But, do you know that we need calories to build and maintain muscle? An average person needs about 2000 calories. Some extreme bodybuilders require about 3000 calories everyday just to maintain their mass.
But, why am I telling you to eat more meals everyday? The reason why so many people fail at muscle building is because their bodies become more adept to storing fat rather than melting it away. If you do spread your calories throughout your day, you are telling your body that you are putting in fuel, so that your body doesn't need to store fat for energy.
Our genes have taught our bodies to do this since ancient times. When we lack food, our body stores fat and use muscle for energy. When you are starving yourself, you are losing muscle!
As I have mentioned earlier, you need calories to maintain muscle. The more muscles you build, you will be able to increase the basal metabolism in your body. Basal metabolism is the metabolism rate that allows you to burn fat even if you are just sitting around, not doing anything. So, in order to increase your basal metabolism, I am trying to advocate the key concept which is to actually eat around five to six meals everyday.
An ideal plan would look like this
Breakfast 6.30 am
Tea-Break 9.30 am
Lunch 1.00 pm
Snack 3.00 pm
Dinner 7.oo pm
Supper 9.00 pm
Of course, there is no need to follow this schedule rigidly. However, you must remember to alternate between larger meals and smaller meals to give an even bigger boost to your basal metabolism.
The Food Items - Being a certified nutritionist, I have seen the benefits of what healthy food can provide. And I must say that certain food items have changed the lives of many other people. This depends on your particular habits. Are you someone who likes to snack often? Are you someone who feels hungry all the time? Or maybe you are someone who has a carnivorous nature?
Breakfast is the most important meal of the day. If you want to eat right, you need to start from the beginning. People call it “Break fast for a reason. Your bodies are deprived of fuel for nearly six to seven hours.
I usually commit to a workout before breakfast. A workout energizes me and prepares me for the day ahead. After a workout, you will usually feel ravenous. The mentality here that you need to adopt is this, eat like a king for breakfast, eat like a prince for lunch and to eat like a beggar for dinner. Your basal metabolism slows down during the later parts of the day. So, eating more during breakfast just makes more sense. Besides, you save more money when you eat at home!
If you are someone who has an urge to eat all the time, chances are you are someone who already has a high basal metabolism rate. Unless you want to keep that layer of belly fat, it is time for you to change your snacking habits. Portion control is not an issue here.
Remember that the items that you pick from this list of foods (that I am about to recommend) need to be fresh. For example, don’t choose processed apricots and canned peaches. They have high sugar content and they contain many preservatives.
The Water Myth - Have you always heard people saying that, don't drink too much water, otherwise you will get water retention problems! You will get bloated in the process!
This is a lie.
We drink more water not only to keep ourselves hydrated, but to maintain our muscles as well. Our bodies are made up of 70% water and this scientific theory also applies to our muscles. Therefore, if you drink water regularly, you are doing 3 things to your body:
1.You maintain your muscle.
2.You refrain from being dehydrated.
3.You consume fewer calories because water takes up the majority of space in your stomach!
Almonds And All Kinds Of Nuts - What's so good about nuts? If you are feeling very nutty, the good news is that generally all kinds of nuts contain monounsaturated fat that clear your arteries and help you feel full.
Almonds are the ruler of the kingdom of nuts although all nuts are high in protein. A handful of almonds provide the calcium. Almonds also contain the 19 percent of your daily requirements of magnesium.
What's the big deal with magnesium? Basically, magnesium is a key component for muscle building.
Studies have shown that people/bodybuilders who consume extra magnesium were able to lift 20% more weights and build more muscle than those who didn't.
Good guidelines? There isn't any hard and fast rule but it is recommended that you eat as much as two to three handfuls of almonds a day.
Eat at least 24 almonds (about two ounces), it should be enough for you to suppress your appetite especially if you wash them down with two glasses of water. The fluid helps expand the fiber in the nuts to help you feel fuller.
Adding chopped nuts to your oatmeal, to peanut butter, to yogurt or ice-cream is another way of enticing the flavor of nuts.
